Junk food as addictive as Heroin? While it’s been a long-held belief by many in the raw food world that cooked food, especially refined sugar, is highly addictive, the science community is now backing this up with this latest study. It took just 5 days on a junk food diet for rats to lose control and continue to eat junk food even if it meant getting a shock!

Switching back to a healthy diet also proved extremely difficult. For over 2 weeks the rats would rather starve themselves than eat healthy food once the junk was taken away. Now you know why changing your diet can be such a challenge – but one that is so worth it, and why you don’t want to “take just a bite” of those foods that will send you back down that spiral into addiction.

When there are so many delicious, healthy, raw alternatives, there’s no need to compromise your health for your taste buds. If you’re feeling the need for something sweeter than plain fresh fruit, top it with this month’s recipe, Chocolate Velvet Sauce, for a decadent but non-addictive treat!

And after eating any sugar, even if it’s raw agave, you’ll want to be sure to brush your teeth. My new favorite product to go with my Sonicare toothbrush is Tooth Soap. I LOVE how squeaky-clean my teeth feel after brushing with Tooth Soap. It’s not inexpensive, but a little goes a long way.
