November 2008 Newsletter
Greetings from Green Spirit Healthy Living!
Happy Thanksgiving! Even though it’s been a turbulent year, I have much to be thankful for. I’m doing what I love, creating great tasting healthy food, sharing it with others and helping them to learn how good it feels to have more delicious raw food in their diets. I also have lots of hope for the future. Without getting too political, let’s just say I sure was excited to be a part of the election night hoopla down at Grant Park!!!

Since we do live in stressful times, I really believe it’s more important than ever to take care of our health. Stress is very taxing on the body, it can create a more acidic pH which is what disease thrives in. For good health, we need to keep our bodies slightly alkaline. We can accomplish this by adding more raw fruits and vegetables – especially green leafy vegetables - almonds, pine nuts, seeds and with oxygen – do some deep breathing every day. I’ve added a very simple salad dressing recipe that I’ve adapted from a student in one of my classes – I love getting new recipes and we can all learn from each other – to my website. I’ve even been using this one at The Chicago Diner lately and everyone loves it. It’s a beautiful green color and is really great on mixed baby greens and topped with pomegranate seeds. You could also massage it into chiffinoded kale or collard greens to get more dark greens into your diet. | Grant Park Election Night '08 |
Another recipe I’ve added is Pumpkin Bread – yum! So great this time of year – especially eaten still warm out of the dehydrator. If you don’t have a dehydrator, Excalibur has a great special through November 30th.
In this time of Thankfulness, let’s not forget Mother Earth. She puts up with a lot from us. A great way to pay her back a little is to eliminate harmful cleaning supplies from our homes (and save money!). The Green Guide has a great list of Do It Yourself healthy cleansers you can see here.
If you’d like to learn how to prepare more raw food to share with your loved ones this holiday season, there is still space available at my Holiday Favorites Class on December 7th.
Wishing you radiant health!
